PSW Metals Ltd operates from a 4,000m2 site based at Westbury-on-Severn in the Forest of Dean. The company has been trading since 1988. The company maintains steady growth and deals with a range of precious metal-bearing scrap and components. The emphasis is on returning the maximum possible amount of material back in to manufacturing processes, resulting in negligible landfill and reduction in uncontrolled shipment to third world countries.

The company has in-house facilities for handling, pre-processing and treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment and components. This material is principally precious metal bearing, however the business actively trades in other high value and specialist metals. Consignments are sourced almost entirely from B2B (business end-users), manufacturers in the information technology and telecommunications sectors, the Ministry of Defence, traders, semi-refiners, multi-nationals, government institutions and other sources in the precious metals industry.

The company holds current registrations in respect of controlled waste and brokerage. Please refer to our compliance page to view these. Certificates of disposal state that material received under customer direction is disposed of in a correct and environmentally secure manner.

On receipt every consignment is comprehensively inspected to ascertain type and quality. Individual items are weighed and categorised separately prior to treatment. Pre-processing entails manual and power-assisted tear-down of complete electronic equipment and pulverisation of the resulting precious metal bearing material.
Stripping of equipment is carried out by a team of operators who are trained in the processes that are carried out in accordance with BATTRT (Best Available Treatment Recovery and Recycling Techniques). Batteries, if present, are removed and weighed separately at this stage.

Once the treatment is completed, base metal scrap is transferred to licensed recyclers in the UK and main land Europe, whilst the precious metal=-bearing fractions are committed to specialist approved refiners.
